COVID-19 UPDATE

COVID-19 Update

With the safety of you, your families, and our communities as our top priority, all scheduled OKWIT events for March and April are canceled, and our Spring Retreat is postponed until further notice.

As of March 15th, we are following the CDC guidance which recommends canceling any events with 50 or more people for eight weeks. The threat of COVID-19 spread is being taken very seriously by OKWIT leadership, and we will continue to monitor the situation to make decisions for future events.

During this uncertain time, we are working to provide new remote ways to engage our membership and youth. Please keep in touch with us through our social media, website, and membership newsletters as we announce online activities to foster interaction and education from your homes.

As always, thank you for your support and participation in Oklahoma Women in Technology. Our hearts and thoughts are with all of you.

Hello, Oklahoma ladies! Oklahoma Women in Technology would love to invite all young women 13-18 years for a behind-the-scenes look into the variety of career opportunities available in the Oklahoma tech industry. We welcome individual attendees as well as larger groups and their chaperones. This free-to-attend event will be in Tulsa and includes the chance to meet women who make an impact in tech roles and companies across our state and see first hand what it is like to have a career in tech. Tech is a growing field in Oklahoma as traditional companies are evolving into tech companies. Come explore the many forms a tech career can take on Friday, May 3. We can’t wait to see you there! Who can attend? In recognition of the ongoing gender gap in IT within the classroom and in the workforce, we specifically market this event free of charge to females in local area middle and high schools (ages 13 – 18). While this event targets women, we openly welcome men who want to engage in the conversation and contribute to a more equitable, diverse society. Lunch and Prizes! Each attendee will receive a complimentary lunch, a bag full of SWAG, an official OKWIT Future is Femake t-shirt, and have the chance to win raffle prizes. When does registration open and close? Registration is currently open and will close on Friday, April 26th at 5 p.m. Space is limited, and registrations are accepted on a first come basis. Can I register a group of people? Behind the Scenes Mentor Session – Tulsa @ ol’Vine Fresh Grill
Behind the Scenes Mentor Session – Tulsa   When: Thursday, May 9th Time: 11:30AM – 1:00PM Where: ol’Vine Fresh Grill | 3523 South Peoria Ave | Tulsa, OK 74105   Lunch provided You must be an Advocate or OKWIT Contributing Executive to register. However, as one of these members – you may register for yourself plus one (your plus one does not have to be an OKWIT member). Seating is limited to 15, so be sure to register early. Use your MemberID to access tickets! You can find this after logging in to your member account here.   OKWIT’s Behind The Scenes Mentor Sessions are a great opportunity to meet with IT leaders in a small-group setting. Often we have set for ourselves the goal of being a manager, director, or a CXO because the path to that role seems logical for one’s career. Yet do we really understand the day-to-day activities and challenges of holding such a position? What is it really like to head a department or lead a division? What skills, knowledge, and credentials are needed to sit in that seat? Were there specific preparations to obtain the position? And once in the role, how does one traverse the day? This session mentor will share “a day in the life of their role” and what it took to get there and retain the position.   About Jennifer Kingham:     Ms. Kingham is the Chief Information Officer at NGL Energy Partners since April 2014. Prior to joining NGL, she served as the Chief Information Officer and Senior IT Audit Manager for nine years at a professional advisory firm. Additionally, she spent 12 years of her career at Williams in various IT technical and management positions. Ms. Kingham has a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems and graduated Cum Laude.

Right-Brained in a Left-Brained World – Tulsa 5:30 pm
Right-Brained in a Left-Brained World – Tulsa @ Elgin Park
May 21 @ 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm
Common measures of success in business focus on “Left-Brained” traits: facts, order, analysis. Increasingly, creativity, or “Right-Brained” traits, are being highlighted as an important component of success. How do we bring balance between these two dominant ways of thinking? How do we adapt to what our environment expects? Join us as Gena Nelson, Chief Data Strategist at dataStrat and Enterprise Data Architect for ONE Gas, shares her journey as a “Right-Brained” person living and working in a “Left-Brained” world. Ticket price for non-members: $10 OKWIT members on the level of ‘Advocate’ or ‘Contributing Executive’ can use your Member ID as your discount code to waive ticket price. Want to become a member today? Visit https://okwomenintech.org/membership/ to learn more about our different levels. This event is made possible by our corporate sponsors, Devon Energy, ONE Gas, and Coretopia.
