Delicious food, drink tickets, cash bar, and great enterainment all included!

TOPIC: Behind the scenes look at the Science Museum of Oklahoma

Who wouldn’t want to see what it is like to be President and CEO of the Science Museum of Oklahoma? Who wouldn’t want a behind the scenes look at 350,000 square feet of hands-on science experiences, art and history? And who wouldn’t want to hear how Sherry Marshall ended up in this unique role! Not us! We are beyond excited and greatful to Sherry Marshall, President of the Science Museum of Oklahoma, for hosting us!

Sherry has an amazing story to tell about how small moments in life can have a big impact, especially when looking at STEM careers. Sometimes it is the unconscious encouragement more than the “ah-ha” moments that can make the biggest difference. It’s finding the “fit” for your passion in the broad landscape of STEM fields, and discovering the joy in loving what you do.

Please join us for this spectacular event!

August Tulsa: Everything is Negotiable

When: Aug 29th, 5:30pm – 7:30pm

Where: OU Tulsa | 4502 E 41st St | Tulsa, OK 74135

his August, join us and keynote speaker, Dr. Meg Myers Morgan.

Dr. Morgan’s talk examines how negotiating skills are crucial to getting what you want in life and work. And as she argues, negotiating isn’t haggling for more money; it’s a skill that forces you to have clarity and confidence in what you want. Using research, personal experiences, case studies, and laugh-out-loud commentary, Meg’s insights provide essential strategies that help propel women in their careers while empowering them to successfully negotiate all aspects of their lives. Ultimately, this relatable, funny, and motivating talk explores the many ways in which we as professionals hold ourselves back and how we can negotiate for more.

Dr. Meg Myers Morgan is an award-winning author, college professor, keynote speaker, and certified executive coach. Her latest book, Everything is Negotiable (Seal Press, 2018), is a best-seller and has now been translated in multiple languages. Meg gave a TED Talk, “Negotiating for Your Life”, for TEDxOU in 2016. Her collection of essays, Harebrained, won the gold medal for humor from the Independent Publishers Book Awards (2015). Meg is certified in Executive and Leadership Coaching from Columbia University and holds a PhD and an MPA from the University of Oklahoma. She is an assistant professor at the University of Oklahoma and leads the graduate programs in Public Administration and Nonprofit Management on the OU-Tulsa campus. She served as the president for YWCA of Tulsa’s Board of Directors, and is currently the vice chair for the Tulsa Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women. She was honored as a 2018 Distinguished Alumni from Drury University.

Do you have a future in Technology?

Oklahoma Women in Technology invites Oklahoma career exploring women (HS graduates + High School students grades 10-12) to join us for day filled with fun activities, great speakers, inspiring local women in Tech, and SO MANY great resources all in 1 place to openly explore your possible future in TECHNOLOGY. This event is FREE thanks to our generous sponsors.

This event is aimed to educate career exploring women in Oklahoma about the breadth of career opportunities in STEM and specifically the Technology field. We want to inspire diverse enrollment into the array of technology training programs available to them, and to cheer their participation in the IT workforce. In recognition of the ongoing gender gap in IT within the classroom and in the workforce, we specifically market this event to women who are either a HS graduate OR a high school student (grades 10-12). While this event targets women, we openly welcome men who want to engage in the conversation and contribute to a more equitable, diverse society.

Jul 25 @ 4:30 pm – 8:00 pm
Tech Company Features Jessica Legako in Art Exhibition Oklahoma City-based tech company amshot spends most days focusing on IT services and software development, but once per quarter, local arts and charity take center stage at its downtown office. exhibITion: Far Away Lands, a collection of contemporary works by Oklahoma artist Jessica Legako, will be showcased on July 25 from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the art show, sale, and reception. Her works will remain in amshot’s office throughout the summer. Benefiting Oklahoma Women in Tech (OKWIT), the event is co-sponsored by COOP Ale Works. It will take place at 428 Dean A McGee Avenue. It might seem unusual for an IT company to be promoting local art and culture, but Michael C. Thomas, CEO of amshot says, “our organization is committed to combining art, fun and community service as a core part of our business.” The proceeds of each exhibITion art show benefit a local charity, giving art-lovers more reason to attend. Each show has attracted upward of 150 persons — some are there for the artist, some are there for the art, some for the community, “and some for the beer,” jokes Thomas, as a local brewery provides beer to attendees 21+ for a $5 donation to the selected charity. “I’ve been a longtime fan of Jessica’s work, and I’ve commissioned pieces from her over the years,” said Rick Alliss, COO of amshot. “I’m really excited to feature one of my favorite local artists right in our office.” Legako’s works portray texture, movement, distance, and depth, primarily using intricately layered oil paint on wood or canvas surfaces. She draws inspiration from her childhood, dreams, aspirations, and nostalgic memories, playing off the relationship between the image she creates and the wood grain it is created on. In addition to selling the art on display at the July 25th event, Legako will also be debuting a collaborative line of canvas bags, pouches, and totes with local upholstery studio Thready or Knot. “exhibITion is amshot’s way of providing another outlet for promoting local artists in downtown Oklahoma City,” said Thomas. “It’s all about combining art, fun, and community service.”
