Hello, Oklahoma ladies! Oklahoma Women in Technology would love to invite all young women 13-18 years for a behind-the-scenes look into the variety of career opportunities available in the Oklahoma tech industry. We welcome individual attendees as well as larger groups and their chaperones.

This free-to-attend event will be in Tulsa and includes the chance to meet women who make an impact in tech roles and companies across our state and see first hand what it is like to have a career in tech.

Tech is a growing field in Oklahoma as traditional companies are evolving into tech companies. Come explore the many forms a tech career can take on Friday, May 3. We can’t wait to see you there!

Who can attend?
In recognition of the ongoing gender gap in IT within the classroom and in the workforce, we specifically market this event free of charge to females in local area middle and high schools (ages 13 – 18). While this event targets women, we openly welcome men who want to engage in the conversation and contribute to a more equitable, diverse society.

Lunch and Prizes!
Each attendee will receive a complimentary lunch, a bag full of SWAG, an official OKWIT Future is Female t-shirt, and have the chance to win raffle prizes.

OKWIT’s Behind The Scenes Mentor Sessions are a great opportunity to meet with IT leaders in a small-group setting. Often we have set for ourselves the goal of being a manager, director, or a CXO because the path to that role seems logical for one’s career. Yet do we really understand the day-to-day activities and challenges of holding such a position? What is it really like to head a department or lead a division? What skills, knowledge, and credentials are needed to sit in that seat? Were there specific preparations to obtain the position? And once in the role, how does one traverse the day? This session mentor will share “a day in the life of their role” and what it took to get there and retain the position.

Let’s face it. Life is full and frenetic for a professional. While much is offered regarding life balance – and we all believe we need it – what is it we are truly striving for as human beings rather than human doings? Creating a professional life while maintaining oneself as a “whole” person can be challenging. The mentor will facilitate a discussion on personal tools to achieve one’s nirvana. These discussion topics may include creativity, communication, conflict management, leadership, finding your dream job, discovering your “place” or other soft skills by your request.   About Jayme Bynum: Jayme Bynum is currently the IT Director for Semgroup Corporation responsible for Infrastructure and Customer Services.
