DEPARTMENT INFORMATION, JOB SUMMARY AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
NOTE:  The normal starting salary for this position is $59,967.36/annually.   A higher salary may be considered, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant and/or the City’s step placement policy.

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

This position will work on the Server Systems team and analyze, configure, update, and support the City main data center systems.

JOB SUMMARY AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

This position is located in the Information and Technology Department  with the City of Oklahoma City and is under the direction of an immediate supervisor.  The Systems Support Specialist II is a fully trained practitioner who possesses full functional knowledge of the assigned specialty, may provide administrative support, and will frequently function independently.  This employee must have previous knowledge of technical information systems and various computer hardware and software environments prior to assuming duties and responsibilities of the position.  Essential job functions include: providing in-house or field technical support of both stand-alone and LAN/WAN hardware and software components; installing new hardware; reconfiguring existing hardware; and diagnosing and repairing personal computers and other related equipment or taking them out of service for repair or replacement.  The Systems Support Specialist II may be responsible for making assignments and functionally supervising the work performance of the Systems Support Specialist I classification.  Work efforts and final products are reviewed at the discretion of the supervisor.

VETERANS PREFERENCE

  • Knowledge of and skill in installing, maintaining and repairing computer systems.
  • Knowledge of current and advancing technologies in computer hardware and software packages.
  • Knowledge of computer operating systems, network operating systems, and the uses of application programs.
  • Knowledge of and skill in configuring, diagnosis and repairing desktop and portable client configurations.
  • Knowledge of the features, capacities, and limitations of computer equipment.
  • Knowledge of and skill in supervising employees.
  • Skill in communicating technical information to non-technical personnel.
  • Skill in instructing, modifying and demonstrating hardware and software applications.
  • Skill in modifying hardware to meet user needs.
  • Skill in organizing information pertaining to work assignments.
  • Skill in communicating both verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in using critical thinking and analysis in reviewing current processes for better efficiency of tasks.
  • Ability to and skill in project management.

DEPARTMENTAL PREFERENCES
  • Certification in Microsoft or VMWare preferred.
  • Experience managing and supporting Microsoft Server virtualization technologies (Hyper-V and VMware).
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience managing and supporting active directory and group policy in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience in Microsoft Server 2012 R2 and 2016 and VMWare 5.5 and higher.
  • Experience with Backup and Recovery in an enterprise environment.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Primarily indoors in a climate controlled environment.
  • Occasionally required to work beyond normal work hours or to change work hours when conducting training or systems analyses.
  • Occasionally local and out-of-town travel.
NOTE: Typical City employee working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, working hours vary (may require work to begin before 8:00 a.m. and/or end beyond 5:00 p.m., and/or may require work on weekends and holidays), and are subject to change, based on the duties and location of the position and the business needs of the position and the business needs of the assigned work unit/department.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Strength enough to lift, push, pull or carry computer equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. (with or without mechanical assistance).
  • Arm-hand steadiness enough to demonstrate and operate computing equipment such as personal computers, graphic work stations, digitizers, plotters, etc.
  • Manual and finger dexterity enough to operate equipment such as personal computers, audio visual and other training aids.
  • Near vision enough to read, write, and develop training materials, audio visuals and slides, and to read and input data on a computer screen.
  • Hearing enough to understand and communicate by telephone and in person in quiet environments and in locations where there is office noise or distracting sounds.
  • Speech enough to communicate by telephone and in person when conducting training or providing assistance.
